Titans and Cobras draw at SuperSport Park in Centurion
Despite their disappointing performances at home in Centurion over the past two weeks, the Titans are still at the top of the log in the 4 Day Domestic Series.
Following their defeat last week against the Warriors, Grant Thomson and his men did slightly better against the Cobras at their home ground in Centurion last week, but a third victory in the 4 Day Domestic Series still eluded them.
The Titans had to be content with a draw against the men of the Western Cape, after their rain-affected match could not yield any result.
At the end of the fourth day’s play, the visitors – who were sent in first to bat on day one, after Thomson won the toss – were still batting in their second innings.
A century stand between Peter Malan and Jonathan Bird ensured the Cape Cobras batted out the final day without much drama.
Proteas opener Malan scored the only half-century of the innings finishing with 57, while Bird posted 47 to help the visitors reach 207 for five before the two captains shook hands.
At that stage, the Cobras were 178 runs ahead but with no chance of a result after the two sides had cancelled each other out over the course of the game at SuperSport Park.
The Cape side, who made 411 in the first innings followed by the Titans posting 440, started the final morning on 33 for none.
Aiden Markram was again a mainstay for the Titans with another 4-Day Domestic Series century as the home team hit back on a rain-hit second day of the clash.
The dashing right-hander, fresh from back-to-back tons in the previous game against the Warriors, ended his innings on 113 off 192 balls when he eventually was dismissed by Calvin Savage.
Markram was well assisted by Neil Brand (115 off 278 balls), who proved once again that he is at home at this level and can become a stalwart for the Titans.
This result kept the Titans top of their pool, while the Cobras leapfrogged the Warriors into second.
