Titans’ wheels come off at national T20 tournament
After the Titans started the recent national T20 tournament on a promising note with two impressive victories, the team's wheels came off dramatically and with three consecutive defeats that followed, they could not even qualify for the playoffs.
The Titans’ fans have every right to be worried and upset about the way their team inexplicably got flurried in the recent national T20 tournament, which was presented in Durban.
Mandla Mashimbyi’s team started the tournament as one of the favourites. They initially met these expectations with a six-wicket win over the Knights, after which they beat the Cobras by 16 runs.
But then the wheels seemed to come off dramatically.
First, the Lions beat them by 18 runs, after failing to chase a fairly easy total determined for them due to the application of the Duckworth & Lewis system.
After that it was the Warriors’ turn to beat the men from Centurion quite easily by 43 runs.

Heinrich Klaasen and his men’s hopes in the tournament were finally dashed when the Dolphins beat them by 7 runs on Friday to make sure they finish in fourth place, out of reach of a playoff game.
Just like in their previous two games, the Titans seemed listless and insecure. They were chasing a moderate 152 for victory, but the Centurion-based outfit never really got going until late in their innings.
It was especially the Titans’ batsmen who let the team down during the tournament. Even with international stars such as Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Chris Morris in their ranks, the Titans’ batsmen could produce just a single half century in five games. That was the 54 of their captain, Klaasen, in the first game against the Knights.
Mashimbyi’s men will now have to do everything in their power to try and win the Cricket SA four-day tournament in the last part of the season.
If they do not succeed, they will end a season without any silverware in the trophy cabinet for the first time in many years.
