Department of Rural Development and Land Reform

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform is one of the departments of the South African government. It is responsible for topographic mapping, cadastral surveying, deeds registration, and land reform. The department falls under the responsibility of theMinister of Rural Development and Land Reform, currently Gugile Nkwinti.

Significant components of the department include the Deeds Registries, the office of the Chief Surveyor-General, the Chief Directorate: National Geo-spatial Information (South Africa’s national mapping agency), and the Land Claims Commission.
