Airshow teaches about aviation careers

Mango Airlines’ annual career day exhibition at Swartkops Air Force Base just outside Pretoria brought new information and possibilities to many inquisitive young minds at the two-day event. Friday, 9 May was reserved for showing underprivileged children the endless possibilities of working in aviation, including engineering, marketing, public relations, piloting and other career opportunities.

The following day was open to the public and visitors experienced various airshow stunts as well as an aviation exhibition. Mango Airlines’ communications manager, Hein Kaiser, spoke to Rekord about the day and why it was important to inform children about aviation.

“Over the last month, we have spoken to about 40 000 children, educating them about possible careers in aviation and its various possibilities. I believe it is important for the children of South Africa to know about this field. We even held a special airshow for the children,” Kaiser explained.

The career day boasted 31 exhibitors from a wide range of careers in aviation. According to Kaiser, their annual career day at Swartkops Air Force Base is their biggest event of the year. People from across Gauteng made their way to the airshow, all excited to see the stunts and enjoy a fun family day.

With Mother’s Day just past, Rekord also captured a couple of mothers with their bundles of joy, enjoying the airshow. Tania McDonald said that her two wonderful daughters, Celine and Shani, made every day a special day. Mynhardt Smit said that he and his two little boys were not only planning breakfast in bed for mom Debby, but also a surprise.

The most anticipated aviation stunt of the day was the one performed by Scully Levine and Mango’s Quintin Moton.
