Oscar Pistorius sent to Weskoppies facility
Judge Thokozile Masipa handed down the full order which included details of Oscar Pistorius's referral for mental observation.
Judge Thokzile Masipa ordered on Tuesday in the North Gauteng High Court that Oscar Pistorius will be referred to Weskoppies facility for psychiatric evaluation.
“The accused must report as an outpatient to the Weskoppies facility from Monday, 26 May. The accused must remain at the hospital until 16:00 daily or until he is formerly excused from the hospital,” Masipa said.
The assessment will carry on for period not exceeding 30 days.
Masipa said the the team of medical professionals will establish whether the Pistorius was by mental illness to defect criminally responsible for his actions.
According to Masipa the team will also seek to establish whether Pistorius appreciated wrongfulness of his conduct.
Masipa added that the team of medical professional must submit a report to the court and that the team must have a record of court proceedings.
The trial is postponed to the 30th of June 2014.
Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year on Valentines Day.
According to Pistorius he thought she was an intruder. He is also charged with three contraventions of the Firearms Control Act — one of illegal possession of ammunition and two of discharging a firearm in public. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges as well.
