Blues maestro rocks Pretoria

Dan Patlansky played to a packed house at Café Barcelona on Wednesday evening.

Pretoria’s own blues maestro, the incomparable Dan Patlansky blew the crowd away at Café Barcelona in Elarduspark on Wednesday evening.

The crowd simply could not get enough, singing along to new songs Hold On and Madison Lane, which are sure to become classics. Patlansky was playing a set consisting mostly of songs from his new album Dear Silence Thieves, which was voted number one album of 2014 by the international magazine Blues Rock Review.

The small, intimate venue was a perfect setting for this soulful music experience. Opening act Roan played a beautiful, acoustic set, acting as the perfect opening act for an artist of Patlansky’s calibre. Roan’s music, well-crafted and honest, makes him an artist to keep an eye on, as he is likely to become a household name very soon.

The music was the main focus of the evening, and no on-stage special effects were used. Standing alongside his bass player and drummer, everyone’s focus was squarely on the star of the evening, whose songs demanded the attention of everyone in the room.

Speaking to Patlansky after the show, he expressed great excitement for his new UK tour. “Next on the cards for me is the UK in April and May. The stand-out show will be The Borderline on 27 April, where we will be introducing Dear Silence Thieves in the UK.”

Patlanksy is regarded as one of the best musicians to come out of South Africa, and his new album will certainly cement his reputation.
