Mom killed and child critical after N14 horror crash

A mother was killed while her 6-year-old daughter suffered critical injuries when two cars collided on the N14 towards Krugersdorp just before the R55 on Wednesday afternoon, Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said.

Kruger said this happened around 16:00 when a man allegedly lost control of his car and collided with another.

“It is alleged that one vehicle was speeding and the driver lost control resulting in the collision. Paramedics arrived on scene and found that tragically, one lady had succumbed due to the severity of her injuries,” he said.

He said the 6-year-old was in a critical condition and was airlifted to hospital for urgent medical care.

The father and the 7-year-old son suffered moderate injuries and were transported to hospital in a stable condition, Kruger said.

“The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured and was held by police for questioning.”

According to Netcare 911, reports from the scene indicate that the car rear-ended a heavy goods vehicle, which resulted in the car crashing into a light delivery vehicle and another car.

Spokesperson Santi Steinmann said the car and the light delivery vehicle then overturned.

“The car came to a standstill on its roof while the light delivery vehicle came to a standstill on its side,” she said.

She said the family of four were from the light delivery vehicle.

Traffic was severely affected as the N14 is closed for police investigations and to clear the scene, Steinmann said.

Kruger commends all emergency services involved.

“It was excellent team work between all services on scene.”
