Eight injured in car blaze
Car catches fire after being struck by trash truck.
Eight people were injured when a car caught fire in a pile up at the R55 (Quagga Road) and Maunde Street intersection at 14:00 on Wednesday.
Best Care Ambulance Service spokesperson Xander Loubser said a trash truck collided with two other cars and another truck. The trash truck then hit a car which caught fire. Both burned out.
“Bystanders took some of the patients to hospital in private vehicles before ambulance services arrived,” said Loubser.
“Best Care transported three slightly injured people to hospital.”
SMART Ambulance Services also took five of the injured people to hospital.
Loubser said possible brake failure caused the accident.
“Fortunately nobody was burned. Everyone was pulled from the car. Motorists can however expect severe traffic delays.”
