NATIONAL NEWS: Woman (85) raped and son (63) murdered

Police said the dog would not allow anyone close to its owner’s body.

An 85-year-old woman was raped and her 63-year-old son was shot dead during a robbery in St Fransquin Street in Malvern.

The Cleveland police spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said two men, one armed with a firearm, held the pair at gunpoint on Monday.

“They tied the woman up, held the man at gunpoint and ransacked the house. After taking R1 400 and some groceries, they took the son to the family’s tuck shop, where he was later found in a pool of blood. The son’s body was being guarded by his dog,” said Mashakane.

Mashakane said the dog sat next to its owner for more than five hours, guarding its owner’s body.
