Two big new movie releases are showing at Nu Metro Menlyn Park and Woodlands in Pretoria along with other cinemas nationwide. The pizza-guzzling turtles return in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and Steven Spielberg’s take on the classic children’s book – The BFG: Big Friendly Giant – also hits the big screen.
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Shredder joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman, henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady to take over the world. Luckily, the turtles have their own allies in April O’Neil, Vernon Fenwick and Casey Jones, a hockey-masked vigilante. As the pizza-loving heroes prepare for battle, the notorious Krang also emerges to pose an even greater threat.
This new installment in the popular franchise improves considerably on its predecessor – promising cinemagoers tons of action, adventure and all-out fun from our crime-fighting ninja turtle-heroes (best known for their “Cowabunga” catchphrase).
The BFG: Big friendly Giant is the new fantasy adventure film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg and written by Melissa Mathison, based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. Spielberg and Mathison first worked together on the cinema classic, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, in the early 1980’s – a partnership destined to enchant a whole new generation of cinemagoers with The BFG.
Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant. Despite his intimidating appearance , the young girl soon realises that the 24-foot behemoth is actually a kind-hearted soul who is considered an outcast by the other giants because, unlike them, he refuses to eat children.
As their friendship grows, Sophie’s presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants.
Both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and The BFG present top-class entertainment for children and adults of all ages – ideal cinema options for the school holidays.
