Sully promises to be a new blockbuster with Tom Hanks playing the lead. The movie starts screening at Nu Metro Menlyn Park and Woodlands in Pretoria, and other cinemas nationwide this Friday, 9 September.
The story is about a disabled airplane guided through the air by Sully, attempting to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River in the middle of New York City. Sully reveals the untold story behind the Miracle on the Hudson.
On 15 January 2009 the world witnessed the miracle when captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 on board.
While Sully was heralded by the public and media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, Sully guarantees quality suspense and drama.
“This is a story of people acting together, selflessly, to get something really important done. Giving everyone a chance to have hope, at a time when we all needed it,” explains Sullenberger, the real-life inspiration for the film.
From the start, he wanted the film to encompass “that sense of our own common humanity”.
The film will be screened in full 4K on the giant Scene Xtreme-screen at the Menlyn Park cineplex. This means that cinemagoers will be able to enjoy this inspired new film in Ultra High Definition (UHD): the highest resolution quality possible for cinema screens.
