Local set on breaking into the entertainment industry
Gambane Mabena is a music producer and hosts a radio show on Tshwane FM.
Tshwane FM presenter Gambane Mabena only joined the station earlier this year, but already has a great following thanks to his new sound and energy.
Mabena co-hosts a Saturday chart show called My 4 Zero Chart Show.
Mabena grew up in a Ndebele home in Mabopane, a township known for producing talents like Katlego Danke, who starred as Dineo Mashaba in Generations, and the first South African black astronaut Mandla Maseko.
He grew up having an interest in music, which he said was something that connected him and his listeners on the radio show.
He started writing his own songs at the age of nine after joining his primary school choir.
“I wanted to see how music (lyrics) was written,” said Mabena.
In 2012, Mabena obtained a certificate in sound engineering at Emendy Multimedia Technology Institute.
He has shared the stage with some big names in the music industry over the years, like the reigning queen of hip-hop Fifi Cooper, Towdee Mac, Tuks Senganga, Mo Molemi, N’veigh and Reason at various events in and around Gauteng.
“He is one of Pretoria’s finest upcoming rappers, performers radio personalities and music producers,” said Nozipho Sibeko, a fan.
Mabena wears many hats as he raps, does voice-over work, produces and writes music.
He is also an independent artist and owns his own production company called Gambane Entertainment.
Mabena is due to release his EP titled Gambane: The Drive soon.
“No date has been set yet. For now I am working on growing my fan base by releasing more singles, engaging with fans on social media, conducting radio interviews and securing gigs.”
Mabena’s two singles, Progress and This Life Thing, are out already and both songs have been well received by his fans.
Mabena’s song Progress was number one Edenvale Radio’s music chart in 2015 and this put him on the map in the music industry.
He is hailed as a true pioneer, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he became the next big hip-hop artist in Mzansi.
