Movie ticket prices on the rise
Annual movie ticket price increase at Ster-Kinekor and Nu-Metro cinemas
Cinema chains Nu-Metro and Ster-Kinekor have increased their movie ticket prices.
“An annual price increase is normal for most companies operating within the entertainment and service industry sectors,” said Ster-Kinekor.
“The average ticket price increase is between 6 percent and 7 percent, which is in line with the country’s current inflation rate.”
Nu-Metro said it took various factors, such as rental, salary, transport and logistics costs as well as the inflation rate into consideration before implementing the movie ticket price increase.

“Seeing a movie isn’t as easy as that. There are a lot of costs which go into making that happen,” said Nu-Metro marketing executive Nitesh Matai.
“We took various factors into consideration and looked at the impact on the business.”
Both cinema houses have also had movie ticket price cuts where Ster-Kinekor reduced its 3D prices at N1 City and Nu-Metro reduced its prices for Scene VIP.
The price increase, however, has not been implemented at all of the Ster-Kinekor cinema complexes.
Those that remain unaffected by the price increase include Southgate, Parow, Maponya, Promenade, and the 2D prices at N1 City.
“The six 4DX premium cinema prices have remained the same price which we believe the market will be able to tolerate,” said Matai.
Matai said Nu-Metro also had agreements in place with various retail outlets to ensure that cinema-goers enjoyed discounts.
Discounts were also offered to pensioners, children and for block bookings.
