Klipgat artist relishing TV opportunity

“I am a hip hop artist and I also play drum and piano among other instruments,” he said.

Young local musician Theophilus Mohau Seretse has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase his talent on a new television show.

The talented 23-year-old from Klipgat, north of Pretoria will be a contestant on a new TV show The NXT LVL Show, which airs on DStv channel 161 on Wednesdays at 21:30 for 10 weeks.

Seretse is mentored, on the show, by five of South Africa’s entertainment industry heavyweights, duo Big Nuz (Danger and Mampintsha), Danny K, Euphonik, Riky Rick and DJ Zinhle.

The young artist told Rekord this week that he was excited about the opportunity.

He said he was working very hard to prove to himself – and his audience – that he was a rare talent.

“I am a hip hop artist and I also play drums and piano among other instruments,” he said.

He said he was inspired by the success and business acumen of some of the very successful artists in the entertainment industry such as Cassper Nyovest, Will Smith and Dr Dre.

“I dream of being an internationally-recognised Grammy award winner one day,” he said.

Seretse, who goes by the stage name Theo.Fill.Us hopes his participation on The NXT LVL will help produce a hit record, gain exposure, expand his fan base, make good connections that will help him in the music industry and work with industry giants.

And then there is, of course, R1 million prize that he stands to win by the end of the competition.

The show was recently launched by Vodacom in partnership with Rocka. It’s mission to find South Africa’s next big music superstar.

The show is presented by renowned TV personality Denise Zimba alongside Mzansi’s own music icons and show mentors; DJ Zinhle, Danny K, Euphonik, Riky Rick and Durban’s Big Nuz.

“This is the only reality show where the winning contestant isn’t forced into a recording deal with a label. However, through this show, the winner is given enough resources to record a full album with the best producers in the country. The winner is given exposure through a PR agency to help build their brand and a lawyer to assist and draft the contracts pertaining to music rights and royalties. The show is really NXT LVL!” said show mentor Danny K.

“This is more than just a music show; it’s about building future entrepreneurs. Successful artists are those that are able to build their brand beyond the stage,” adds DJ Euphonik.
