Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri (16 LPV)
Showing at Nu Metro Menlyn Park and the VIP cineplex at Parkview
The winner of four Golden Globe-awards earlier this year is a critically-acclaimed crime drama starring Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell. After months have passed without a culprit in her daughter’s murder case, Mildred Hayes makes a bold move: commissioning three signs leading into her town, each with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, the town’s revered chief of police. When his second-in-command, Officer Dixon, an immature mommy’s boy with a penchant for violence, gets involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing’s law enforcement is only exacerbated. Empire magazine describes the film as “funny, brutal and breathtakingly beautiful”, with wide praise bestowed upon Frances McDormand’s outstanding performance.
