Kwaito won’t die if I can help it – Hammanskraal artist

Mindlos says he is on a quest to revive kwaito.

Hammanskraal kwaito star Mandla Mokoena has shot down suggestions kwaito is dying.

The Kanana-born artist known as Mindlos was responding suggestion that the genre was hot on the heels of its recently departed pioneers Mandoza, Brown Dash and others.

“Kwaito is not dead and will not die,” he said.

Mindlos said that with the release of his new 10 track commercial house album Ubunandi bayizolo this week, he was ready to prove that kwaito would always be relevant.

“Kwaito is not dead, as long as the townships still exist, Kwaito will always be there,” said Mokoena.

He said the township breed of dance music was part of South Africa’s heritage.

“I have been enjoying releasing albums that make people dance because music is about entertainment and you can’t get entertained without moving on the dance floor. This is the reason I have worked with producer Dj Madblue because he is talented when coming to make even next door aunt dance to your music,” he said.

This album features hits like Sanamarena, Hamba uzobuya and Duduzile.

“If you are a commercial house fan this is your album you won’t regret having it in your collection. It has started shaking the music industry by getting lots of airplay on local and national radio stations,” said Mindlos.

He said he had been in the music industry for nearly two decades having launched his career with the hit Dlala Lepara in 2000, which he followed up with his debut album five years later comprising hit Tshela Papa.

In 2013 he released another 12 track album Shasa Botoro and before moving to house music in 2015.

“I started house music with a single called Dumelang because I was greeting my fans and in 2016 I returned with another house single Duduzile.”

He says he has shared the stage with artists like Dj Mad Blue, Tebza S, Dr Malinga, Dj Mobi Dickson, Black Motion, Nolwazi in Soshanguve, Hammankraal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Botswana and others areas.
