‘Easy’ accommodation for TUT students
“TUT has, at the beginning of each year, been facing challenges with long queues of students seeking accommodation.”

The TUT Enterprise Holdings (TUTEH) has officially launched its digital platform aimed at simplifying student accommodation.
It will enable their accommodation providers to manage all essential aspects of providing student accommodation.
TUTEH is the commercial arm of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
TUTEH spokesperson Nkuli Maphanga said the digital platform was dubbed TRes (pronounced “tee-res”).
“After extensive user testing and getting inputs from user groups, TRes is available and accessible to all students and accommodation providers.”
She said this platform was set to meet the needs of all those involved.
“Student accommodation has been problematic for many years. It is no secret that TUT at the beginning of each year faces challenges with long queues of students seeking accommodation. At times, some of these students slept on the streets with many of them being taken advantage of by criminals.”
TUTEH CEO Nicholas Motsatse said TRes was a digital platform built to enhance the quality of life for students in student accommodation, while providing appropriate tools and support to accommodation providers.
“The design and functionality of the platform aim to create ongoing interaction between students, accommodation providers and university administrators in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
“Each of the participants must always feel like their voice is heard,” said Motsatse.
Motsatse said TRes was created through a unique alliance with TUT’s Faculty of Information Communication Technology (FoICT).
He said TUTEH recruited a team of recently graduated technology students who were part of FoICT’s Informatics Community Engagement Programme (ICEP) and gave them the responsibility to lead the development of TRes.
He said they were supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS), through a generous collaboration arrangement, and by Agile 42, a specialist project management firm.
He said this team, all of whom are under 30 years of age, “has flown the TUT flag high”.
Motatse said one of the unique features in the student accommodation space was that students can now rate the quality of their accommodation daily, which then translated into the prominent display of those highly rated residences.
