UPDATE: Body of missing Centurion man identified after six months since his disappearence

Over the past six months, Singh received numerous calls from people who claimed they saw Eiberg.

The family of Betholomeus Henry Eiberg (28), who disappeared in December last year, finally received clarity on his whereabouts.

It was confirmed he had died.

Sunday would have marked seven months of him being missing since neither family nor friends have heard or seen Eiberg.

A “homeless” man got in contact with the family last week after he saw a photo of Eiberg in Rekord, notifying them that he might have information on Eiberg’s death.

“I have news about your brother”, the man explained over the phone to the sister, Chantal Anneen Singh.

Over the past six months, Singh received numerous calls from people who claimed they saw Eiberg.

Shortly after his disappearance in December, a close friend of Eiberg thought that she spotted him in Bedfordview in western Ekurhuleni. She, however, had mistaken Eiberg with someone else.

According to the man, Eiberg apparently collapsed at a local mall on 20 December. From a screenshot the sister was shown, she managed to identify her brother by the clothes he was wearing at the time if his disappearance.
“At the time of his death, he had no identification with him so no one could identify him or inform family members or friends about his passing.

Singh, her husband and Eiberg’s mother went to identify his body at the forensic pathology services in Pretoria.

“My husband said he does not want me to see my brother’s body as ‘that is not the way he wants me to remember my brother’.”

“In a sense we are so relieved that we finally have clarification, but his passing still feels unreal.”

In June, Chantal said the family was unsure whether the passing of their father in 2018 and their mother, who suffered a leg injury following a hit-and-run accident, might have prompted his disappearance.

Mother of Eiberg, Petro, said she has come to terms about her son’s death.

“The Lord will not give me more than I can bare,” said Petro.

Eiberg would have celebrated his 28th birthday on 10 July.

A date for his memorial service has not yet been set.

“My mother wishes to place his ashes at my father’s grave at a cemetery in Alberton,” said Singh.
