Voice of an angel in the Moot
Waverly resident is ready to release her debut gospel album.

An up and coming Waverley gospel singer, who is ready to release her first album, says she has been singing since she was nine years old.
“My grandfather was part of a band and I think my talents came from there,” Sharon Meyer told Rekord.
“At the age of 18, I started taking my singing career to greater heights by writing my own songs.”
Her debut album is titled Presence.
Meyer cites Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as role models.
“I loved their music and how they express themselves with their voices,” she said.

Meyer also grew up with music from local artists such as Steve Hofmeyr, Andre Swarts and Rina Hugo who inspired her to be the person she is today.
She said she realised on her 18th birthday that she could perform in front of large crowds.
“I performed in front of many people and my singing just soared from there,” she said.
The most important factor of Meyer’s life when it comes to singing gospel, however, is the worshipping of God and making God the centre of everything in her life.
“The gospel industry is a bit hard to get into in South Africa. I would love to help find a way to make it easier by giving young artists more exposure and open up opportunities for them,” she said.
According to Meyer, young people of today must live their dreams and she would want them to have more opportunities.
“I make mistakes and I regret things, but I try to live my life in such a way that I can influence people in a good caring manner. I always accept my mistakes and what I would love people to remember me for is that I am human and I love God,” said Meyer.
She signed on at Kelber Music Productions and hopes to win awards and tour through South Africa and even overseas perhaps.
As a gospel singer, she also has personal favourite songs from other gospel artists.

“What a Beautiful Name and Hillsong because they inspire me every day and locally, Retief Burger, because his song ‘Sekelmaan’ brings you close to God and His creation,” Meyer said.
Meyer belongs to a worship team and a prayer group from Hoop & Lewe church based in Waverley.
She is one of five children born and raised in Krugersdorp.
“Life was hard, but my upbringing was worth it.
“I was a tomboy and most of the time I played with toy cars instead of dolls, but my family raised me in Jesus. Although my life was not all sunshine and roses, we had a good childhood,” concluded Meyer.
