Moonshine restaurant officially opens in Menlyn

The upmarket eatery welcomes clients to its authentic, New York-style restaurant and bar.

It was a night of good music, delicious food, glitz and glamour at the official opening of the Moonshine Menlyn restaurant at Time Square in the east of Pretoria last Thursday.

More than 30 guests attended the event.

“The event is about showcasing the beautiful site and the services we provide,” owner Estiaan Joubert told Rekord.

Joubert said they pride themselves on welcoming their clients to their authentic, New York-style restaurant and bar.

“We have wood-fired pizza ovens and specifically focus on American barbecue type of meals.”

“It has a beautiful view of Menlyn Maine and sunset, which are some of the things that differentiate us from other restaurants in the area.”

Moonshine Menlyn executive chef Wessel van Jaarsveld said they made every meal and sauce themselves in the restaurant.

“We make sauces and more from scratch on-site,” Van Jaarsveld said.

He said after spending many years in America and acquiring valuable experience in culinary arts, he was happy to be back in Pretoria.

“Moonshine is going to be the place to be before a show,” said Time Square general manager Reuben Gooranah.

“I think everyone will agree that the repurposing of what was previously a kiddies play area is a great success, and Moonshine will offer a great view of the precinct during the summer when people can enjoy sitting outside.

“Time Square looks forward to a great partnership with Moonshine and making it a big success.”

One of the guests Wuanette van Dyk said she felt home in the restaurant.

“I feel at home with the vibe – something you do not get anywhere else.”

She said a perfect atmosphere, complemented by superb food, made it memorable.
