Community spirit was recently on full display when Overkruin Athletics Club donated R10 000 to the Sinoville Crisis Centre, displaying the club’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the community beyond the athletics track.

The donation, made from the club’s funds, will assist the crisis centre in continuing its work of providing care and support to victims of crime, children in need, and families facing difficult circumstances in the Sinoville area.

According to Overkruin Athletics Club chairman Johan Kirsten, the decision to support the crisis centre reflects the club’s belief that community involvement extends far beyond promoting healthy lifestyles.

“As a community-based athletics club, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond running. We are passionate about making a positive difference in the communities where our members live, work. and train.

“The incredible work done by the Sinoville Crisis Centre to support vulnerable individuals and families inspired us to make this contribution and help them continue their important mission,” said Kirsten.

He explained that the donation was made possible through the club’s annual membership fees and proceeds from the annual Overkruin Beast Race, held on March 28.

“The donation was made from the club’s funds, which are built through our members’ annual membership fees and the proceeds from our annual Overkruin Beast Race.

“Every runner who supports our events and activities has therefore played a part in making this contribution possible,” he said.

Kirsten added that the Sinoville Crisis Centre was selected because of its direct impact on the lives of residents.

“The Sinoville Crisis Centre provides an invaluable service to our local community by offering support, care, and hope to people facing difficult circumstances.

“We wanted to support an organisation that has a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of those in need within our own community.”

He said giving back forms part of the club’s core values.

“Community is at the heart of everything we do. While we promote healthy lifestyles through running and walking, we also believe in compassion, teamwork, and supporting those around us.

“Giving back is one of the ways we live out our values and strengthen the communities that support our club.”

Kirsten also expressed the hope that the donation would encourage others to support local organisations making a difference.

“Every contribution, no matter the size, can make a meaningful difference.

“We hope our donation encourages individuals, businesses, and other organisations to support the many charities and community organisations that work tirelessly to improve lives every day.”

The management of Sinoville Crisis Centre thanked the athletics club and its members for their generosity, saying the donation would strengthen the centre’s ability to continue providing essential services to victims of crime, children in need, and struggling families.

Kirsten also extended an invitation to residents interested in an active lifestyle to join Overkruin Athletics Club, which is based at Hoërskool Overkruin, saying the club welcomes runners and walkers of all fitness levels who want to be part of a friendly and community-focused environment.
