The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) hosted its Departmental Service Excellence Awards Ceremony on Thursday.

POLOKWANE – The awards are to recognise the efforts of all departmental directorates, teams and divisions which have rendered outstanding performances in service delivery. They also aim to promote creative performance in good governance and to grow the culture of accountability within CoGHSTA.

Employees with 20, 30, and 40 years’ service within the department were among those recognised during the awards for their devoted service.

The two recipients of the 40 years of service were Selaelo Fambe and Steven Ramugondo.

Ramugondo said he started his career in public service in 1976. Through hard work, dedication and determination to further his ambitions, Ramugondo obtained, among others, his senior certificate and various other diplomas.

“I am dedicated in whatever I do and to apply what I have learned. I really enjoy my work and to inspired younger colleagues to be as dedicated as me to their careers,” he said.

Fambe started his career in 1976 at the then Venda Department of Home Affairs. He joined the Department of Local Governance in Polokwane after he was transferred from Venda in 1999.

“I am very proud of my achievement and it has taken a lot of hard work to achieve this milestone. I will retire in 2019, but currently I enjoy every moment of my work,” Fambe said.

The winning teams (or departments) that received awards are:

• Best service delivery – Community Development Programme.

• Best support – ICT Infrastructure and Systems.

• Best innovative team – HRCD: Learnership and Internship.

• Best traditional council office – Dzumeri Traditional Council.
