According to Energy FM chairperson, Simphiwe Mdlalose, the launch of the station brings to life the dream of the founders to contri-bute to the development and growth of the city.

“Energy FM aims to make a contribution by facilitating discussion, sharing information and promoting local business. The station will broadcast 60% in English and 40% in local languages, incorporating the three dominant ethnic groups in the city; Sepedi, Tshivenda, and Xitsonga.

“We will broadcast 24 hours every day throughout the Capricorn district. We promise to build new talent that will be fed into other streams of the radio industry because development is important to us,” he said.

He told Express that Energy FM would be the true heartbeat of the city in terms of information and entertainment.

“Like the other cities, our city needs a radio station that would concentrate on all issues and matters that affect our people. The station’s broadcast format carries 65% music and 35% talk shows. The music will feature a variety of genres such as RnB, Soul, Afro-pop, hip hop, kwaito, house and will also cater to jazz and gospel lovers alike,” he said.

Founder Shonisani Muleya said the station had attracted fresh local talent.

“We were able to attract a mix of new talent that we are proud to introduce to the radio industry,” he said.
