Borehole installation in Luthuli Park and surrounds to augment water supply

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said the boreholes installed in the extensions area alone are expected to contribute an additional two megalitres of water daily.

POLOKWANE – The installation of boreholes was underway days before the Easter weekend in some areas of Seshego including the extensions, to augment water supply to Legae la Batho, Luthuli Park and surrounding areas.

This is according to municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala who said the project is part of a comprehensive strategy to mitigate water shortages.

The greater municipal area suffers grave water shortages that in some instances, span weeks and concerns were noted over the years by officials of the municipality after locals made mention of these.

Selala said the boreholes installed in the extensions area alone are expected to contribute an additional two megalitres of water daily to the municipal system, and labelled this a significant boost compared to current production levels.

Meanwhile, Mayor John Mpe and mayoral committee member on water, Alfred Moakamedi are said to have inspected the boreholes on March 27.

On March 28, the two visited the Seshego Water Treatment Plant which is still under construction.

In a video, Mpe said they were adamant to have water pumped into households by the end of April through this plant, which is said to supply 10 megalitres of water daily. The municipality had communicated several dates for the commissioning to residents between November and last month.

“On a larger scale, we are actively planning for the replacement of aging infrastructure along the Dap Naude line,” he remarked.
