POLOKWANE – The centre management at Savannah Mall confirmed to the Polokwane Review-Observer that there were no injuries during an armed robbery a short while ago.

A man, said to be Indian, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by a group of unknown, armed suspects.

Mall manager Janene Wessels said gunshots were fired by several males at the banking entrance but could not provide further information at the time of publishing.

She, however, noted that the police and emergency services were quick to respond.

Wessels could not rule out that the shooting was planned and that the victim may have been followed as he was carrying a substantial amount of cash.

Accounts from onlookers suggest the man was en route to make a transaction at an ATM when the incident occurred.

The Review-Observer is awaiting official comment from the police.

This is a developing story.
