Shebeshxt’s 3rd bail bid cancelled as new legal team takes over

Shebeshxt's third bail application has been cancelled after he appointed new legal counsel. He will instead appear for pre-trial on Thursday.

POLOKWANE – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo has confirmed that the third bail application on new facts by Lekompo superstar Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke has been cancelled in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi said the application, which was expected to be heard on Thursday, was cancelled after Chauke appointed new legal counsel.

Malabi said the new legal team needs more time to familiarise themselves with the matter before the application can proceed. Chauke will instead appear for pre-trial on Thursday.

Charges and previous legal representation

Chauke is facing a total of 21 charges, including four counts of attempted murder, theft and malicious damage to property.

He was previously represented by Advocate Michael Khumalo and Senior Counsel Laurence Hodes.

Third bail bid cancelled

This was to be his third bail application on new facts. His second bail application on new facts was dismissed by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last month.

He then appealed the bail denial at the Polokwane High Court, where his application was also dismissed.

Judge Karin Pillay said that Chauke committed serious Schedule 6 offences while on bail.
