RICHMOND Farm, Mokgoba and Shining Stars all excelled during the Mopani Farm Sport Festival

RICHMOND Farm, Mokgoba and Shining Stars all excelled during the Mopani Farm Sport Festival, which was held in Letsitele last week.
The Richmond Farm team from Hoedspruit won the soccer category with nine points from four games, while Shining Stars from Letsitele were first in the women’s soccer category with 11 points from five games.
The Mokgoba settlement team from Modjadjiskloof took the honours in netball. Tony Lewele of Richmond won the soccer Player of the Tournament Award, while Winny Moagi and Colletta Magadhagadha were honoured for outstanding performances in women’s soccer and netball respectively.
All the teams which qualified for the second round of the competition in three sporting codes received playing kits, bags and soccer and netball balls, while the winners received trophies and medals courtesy of the provincial department of sport, arts and culture.
According to the organisers of the festival, about 30 farm sport teams participated in the annual two-day event, which was aimed at encouraging farm communities to participate in the sport, unearthing talent hidden in farm communities and ensuring farm communities are empowered.
