DJ Cleo sets the record straight

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed producer and businessman, Cleopas Monyepao aka DJ Cleo vehemently denies rumours that he is gay.

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed producer and businessman, Cleopas Monyepao aka DJ Cleo vehemently denies rumours that he is gay.

Cleo says he is worried that the allegation of him being gay has been there for a long time and he has never made time to dispell the rumour.

He says he decided to speak out after realising that many people are still holding the view that he is not straight, and keep asking him about the truthfulness of the reports regarding his sexual orientation. “I did not want to talk about this thing because I was afraid to make noise and sound like a person who is against gay people and provoke gender organisations.”

Cleo, who was in Polokwane on Thursday to promote his new album, Es’khaleni Soul no 9 says the rumour started a few years ago when he was spotted at a petrol station with a gay friend, and it was blown out of proportion. “Does having a gay friend make you gay?” he asks.

“I want to make it clear and set the record straight. I am a man who does not hate gays since they are also human beings with rights.”

Cleo says at first he was not bothered, but he is now worried because the gay cloud keeps following him wherever he goes.” I want to concentrate on creating good music rather than dwell on rumours.”
