Nod for local hip hop stars
FOR the first time in the history of Polokwane's entertainment world, hip hop musicians will be honoured

FOR the first time in the history of Polokwane’s entertainment world, hip hop musicians will be honoured for spending sleepless nights trying to fly the provincial flag through hip hop music.
The Raymond Shihawu Foundation will host the first ever Limpopo hip hop awards called, BEM! LimHop® Awards.
According to the foundation’s director and founder, Raymond Shihawu, the event’s mission is to encourage local hip hop musicians to work hard and promote the local industry. “We want to honour them and are calling on all hip hop musicians and groups to take part in this historical event. It is also aimed at celebrating the latest cultural achievements in the province and raising awareness of the many careers that are in the arts.”
Shihawu said hip hop was not given the attention it deserved and the foundation was trying to create a platform of recognition for the genre.
There are 12 categories in the competition: best single, best collaboration, best mitape, best solo artist, best male, best female, best rookie, best lyricist, best video, most downloaded track, I am hip hop and people’s champ.
Those who want to take part in the competition can contact Tlakale Mogowe before September 30, and can send a biography of the musician they want to enter, a mixtape, album, or single to tlakale.mogowe@live.com. They should state which category they want to compete in.
Fans are also encouraged to nominate their favourites.
The event will be held at the Library Gardens Auditorium on November 30 and is open for everyone. For more information, contact Tlakale at 083 574 6018.
