A designer with a difference
Ronald says his aim is to make people look and feel good with his designs.
RONALD Shilajoe (25) of Moletjie Mabokelele is a different kind of designer: he designs and makes clothes for both older and young people.
Ronald says his aim is to make people look and feel good with his designs.
He says he never intended to be a designer, but had a change of heart when his brother encouraged him to consider fashion design as a career after he noticed Ronald’s sense of style.
Ronald has participated in two fashion competitions: a show which was hosted by Glitzz Modelling Agency at Mall of the North in June 2012 and a fashion show which was held at Fusion Boutique Hotel on September 7.
“Participating in these shows gave me a lot of experience. I also learned a few things from other designers,” says Ronald.
He says he faces challenges such as not being able to market his outfits, a shortage of equipment such as machinery and a bigger space to operate from.
“One needs to focus and be creative to attract customers.
“I wish to open my own fashion store under the label, mRonza. I want to be my own boss, create jobs and share my skills and knowledge with upcoming fashion designers,” he says.
Ronald encourages young people to listen to their parents and to focus on their studies.
