Ten Good Hope Primary School learners received a pair of shoes last Tuesday, which were donated by the Road Accident Fund (RAF) through its corporate social development investment initiative.
The school also received reflective jackets and caps, which will be used for scholar patrol.
Cynthia van Rensburg, a RAF representative said the safety of children came first, especially as the school was in a main road and there was traffic from the Lawton Bridge passing by the school.
“We have arranged for someone from the department of roads and transport to teach the children how scholar patrol works and once they have finished the training, the scholar patrol will be implemented,” Van Rensburg said.
The school governing body (SGB) chairperson, Rowland Stander expressed his sincere gratitude to RAF as well as that of the parents, teachers and the community.
Stander urged companies and institutions to extend their corporate social development investment initiatives to the school. The school was a donation in part from former president Nelson Mandela, who visited the school more than once.
