Local cyclist Cherie Siebert, was one of the 19 204 cyclists who took part in the Momentum 94,7km Cycle Challenge on Sunday.

She finished in 385th position overall.

The Momentum 94,7km cycle challenge is the world’s second-largest timed cycle race, after the Cape Argus cycle race, and is held annually on the third Sunday of November, known as Cycle Challenge Sunday.

This was Cherie’s sixth 94,7km race and she finished in a time of 02:37:05. While ending 385th overall, she ended in fourth place out of 3 868 women, and third in the elite category.

“As it wasn’t my first time doing this race, I knew what to expect. Even though the races get easier, I didn’t think I would end up fourth of all women, I surprised myself,” she said.

Cherie finished the race in a time of 03:01 last year and hoped to finish this year in a sub three, a great improvement.

“We at Polokwane Pedallers are very proud of Cherie with her excellent results,” Elbie Louwrens from Polokwane Pedallers said.
