POLOKWANE – Top-notch security at Savannah Mall was in all probability what prevented the possible theft of a Harley Davidson motorcycle, displayed at the banking mall, on Sunday.
At around 21:40 the security cameras identified a man climbing over the security barriers of the display and getting onto the motorcycle.
Karen Botha, group marketing manager at Savannah Mall, said the man tried to remove the motorcycle stand on which the motorcycle was standing but failed in his attempt.
“He got off the bike and started to undress the mannequin that was clothed in riding gear.
“The security guard approached the man and he began to run.
“The security guard followed him and the man was caught.
“We called the police and the man was arrested shortly afterwards,” Botha said.
Still at Savannah Mall, security caught a man who allegedly broke into a bakkie.
“The man is well known by our security as he has a history of stealing out of motor vehicles at the mall.
“He disappeared for a while, until Tuesday, when our security cameras identified him in the parking lot. Our security followed the man.
He got into a bakkie, which did not belong to him, and that is when the security guards made their move and apprehended him. He was arrested after we called the police,” Botha said.
Botha said the management of Savannah Mall had zero tolerance when it came to crime, and warned people not to get involved in criminal activities.
“Together with the police we will combat crime and ensure that all who engage in criminal activities are caught and brought to justice,” Botha said.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala, was unable to comment on the matter at the time of going to print due to an off-line computer system.
