Raging towing war goes on unabated

The latest incident in what is being called the towing war occurred when one of the towing operators from Legend Towing Services awoke to the smell of something burning at around 02:00 on Tuesday.

POLOKWANE – The latest incident in what is being called the towing war occurred when one of the towing operators from Legend Towing Services awoke to the smell of something burning at around 02:00 on Tuesday.

“I woke up and started coughing because of the smoke. It was filling my house and I thought that the house was on fire. Then I realised that there was a huge light shining outside my bedroom window, and realised that my towing vehicle was on fire,” a still shocked towing operator told Review. Earlier in the year around May another incident suspected to be arson occurred, and a case was opened with the Seshego police.

However, according to the vehicle owner, André Minnaar, nothing has been done since the incident occurred. “I have never seen or heard from an investigating officer nor have I received any feedback regarding progress on arrests,” Minnaar told Review in September.

In October, Review reported on another towing operator who was shot at and injured, allegedly by a rival towing operator. Although a criminal case was also opened in this connection, the suspect has still not been arrested.

Westenburg police spokesperson, Capt Mohlaka Mashiane said a case of malicious damage to property relating to this latest incident was opened and no arrest had been made as yet.

“We urge anyone with information to contact the Westenburg police at (015) 292 9410/15,” Mashiane said.
