Ivydale Shelter in need of your help

Ivydale Shelter opened its doors to needy, homeless people and children two years ago and has turned into a home for the people who stay there.

POLOKWANE – Ivydale Shelter opened its doors to needy, homeless people and children two years ago and has turned into a home for the people who stay there.

The shelter, which is situated just 5km outside the city, currently caters for 26 children and 30 adults staying there full-time.

Ivydale Shelter depends and survives on donations from the public.

Brenda Grebe, who helps to manage the shelter says the 26 children of different ages live in a four-roomed house and pensioners live in small separate rooms.

“We ask the public to help by donating food, clothes, toys, books and anything that can help the residents. We will appreciate anything that we receive. Most important: if people have any over the counter medication like pain medication and basic first aid items for the elderly residents, that could also help,” she says.

Grebe says anyone who wants to donate to the shelter can contact her at 072 302 1180. She is also willing to personally pick up any donations anywhere in the city.
