Cosatu meets with shop stewards in Tubatse

COSATU's Tubatse branch held a shop-steward council meeting at Mosebu Primary School last Thursday.

COSATU’s Tubatse branch held a shop-steward council meeting at Mosebu Primary School last Thursday.

The gathering was attended by various affiliates, which included the South African Democratic Teachers Union, the South African Municipal Workers Union, the Food and Allied Workers Union, the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union, the African National Congress Youth League, the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa, South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) and the South African Communist Party.

Sanco chairperson in Tubatse Jackson Tjatji highlighted that the aim of the meeting was for the unions to pledge and garner support for the ANC in the forthcoming elections.

Anna Makgopa, treasurer of Cosatu in Limpopo, was the main speaker and urged the delegates to support the ruling party.

“As you heard in the state of the province address in Limpopo, premier Stanley Mathabatha acknowledged that government has tried to create decent jobs for the public. Rome was not built in a day, one day we will win the battle against un-employment. Let’s continue to vote for the ANC as it’s the one that will provide us with decent jobs,” Makgopa said.

She also condemned protesters who vandalised state property while striking. “It baffles me to see our people destroying state-owned buildings when they are unhappy and voice their concerns.

How can you burn a clinic when you want water? You need to participate in community meetings in order to curb these violent protests,” she told the delegates. The meeting was concluded with the delegates singing revolutionary songs and chanting the ruling party’s name.
