Village gets its own clinic after a waiting period of 22 years

THE long wait since 1992 of residents of Shivulani village in Giyani for a clinic, has come to an end.

THE long wait since 1992 of residents of Shivulani village in Giyani for a clinic, has come to an end.

The clinic came as a relief to Shivulani villagers, as well as those from neighbouring villages, as previously they had to walk over 10km to get to the nearest clinic in Mphambu village in Malamulele.

Speaking at the recent official opening of the clinic, Eric Novela, chairperson of the steering committee that fought to have the clinic built, urged the government to ensure that there was no shortage of medication.

“We understand that there might be times when there will be a shortage of medication, but if that happens just make sure that it does not become a common occurrence. Don’t let it be a place where you come today and they tell you that there’s no medication, and when you return again a week later, you’re told the same story,” he said.

Greater Giyani Municipality executive committee member, Abraham Manganyi said the building of the clinic was part of the “good story to tell” since 20 years of democracy. “Since 1994 we have seen clinics and other government servicing points being built in the places where there were none before,” he said.
