The police in Limpopo arrested 540 suspects for various crimes ranging from property related, armed robbery and driving under the influence of liquor during the past weekend.

POLOKWANE – The police in Limpopo arrested 540 suspects for various crimes ranging from property related, armed robbery and driving under the influence of liquor during the past weekend.

“These arrests have made our intentions of making the Easter weekend and other long weekends this April peaceful, very clear,” said Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, provincial police spokesperson.

According to Mulaudzi, 234 suspects were arrested for housebreaking at residential, as well as business premises, stock theft, theft out of motor vehicles, theft of motor vehicles, as well as attempting to commit housebreaking. A further 37 suspects were busted for the possession of suspected stolen property.

Mulaudzi said 76 people were nabbed for contact crimes, including assault, murder and attempted murder.

He said 45 suspects were also arrested for being in the possession of dangerous weapons.

Ten people were arrested for reckless or negligent driving and driving under the influence of liquor.
