Mecklenburg police spokesperson, Const Elias Setati said Kenneth Matlaka (27) allegedly approached a dedicated young constable trying to convince him to stop investigating his reckless and negligence driving case.

A MAN was recently arrested after he allegedly tried to bribe a Mecklenburg police officer on the R37 road near Driekop.

Mecklenburg police spokesperson, Const Elias Setati said Kenneth Matlaka (27) allegedly approached a dedicated young constable trying to convince him to stop investigating his reckless and negligence driving case.

“Matlaka thought that our police officers were corrupt, but he was wrong.

“Our officers are dedicated to their jobs and never take bribes from people who broke the law,” he said.

Setati also warned criminals to refrain from offering bribes to law enforcers as they would be locked up. The suspect appeared briefly before the Mecklenburg magistrate’s court on April 4, and his case was postponed to a date in May.

He was remanded in custody.
