AFTER losing his job as a taxi driver, Tshifhiwa Mululuma (35) from Itsani village outside Thohoyandou vowed to never work for anyone else again.
That is when he started Saraga Chicken, which sells chickens and eggs.
“I started the business after I realised that people in the village walked long distances to buy chicken and eggs,” said Mululuma.
“I am happy because the community supports my business.”
He says he sells more than 40 chickens over weekends.
Mululuma says he is proud to have created employment for one person in the community.
“All I want is to be a good example to young people in Itsani. When I started the business, people discouraged me, saying that selling chickens was not a good idea. I appreciate the support I have received from the community since,” he says.
He says he doesn’t see himself working for anyone else ever again, and he wants to expand his business.
“My dream is to have more chickens and egg-laying hens, and to create employment for local young people.”
