POLOKWANE – A search has begun for a leopard that was seen at the Coca-Cola Fortune manufacturing plant in Marmer Street, Magna Via, on Sunday evening.
The animal was spotted by the night shift team and there is video footage of the animal walking around on the premises (see photo).
Philip Nieman, managing director of Coca-Cola Fortune, confirmed that nobody was injured and that the animal was no longer on the premises.
“We are aware of the sighting of a wild cat at our Polokwane manufacturing plant. We are working with the Limpopo department of economic development, environment and tourism (Ledet) to locate the cat and ensure it is handled correctly and returned safely to its natural habitat,” Nieman said.
He added that there was video footage of the leopard leaving the plant, which confirmed that the animal was no longer on site.
“We remain committed to providing a safe working environment for all our employees,” he said.
The department of environmental affairs confirmed that based on the expertise of field rangers, the leopard will probably have moved to the Bendor area. If you spot the animal, phone Sam Kakhubele at 082 904 5874.
