THE Mogalakwena municipal manager, William Kekana, was reinstated in his position on Monday.
His reinstatement received a good reception from the residents of Mogalakwena although the ANC in the province did not want to say anything.
Residents who spoke to CV but did not wish to be named, said Kekana had been made to relinquish his position illegally, by those who regarded him as an obstacle in the path to enriching themselves with tenders in the municipality.
Kekana was previously reinstated after a court order, but found his office locked and the contents of his office removed.
After this incident, Kekana was never able to return to his post.
The department of cooperative governance, human settlement and traditional affairs subsequently places Mogalakwena Municipality under administration.
Thereafter the ANC removed the mayor from his post.
DA Limpopo leader, Jacques Smalle said the DA was of the view that internal conflicts in the ANC were hindering service delivery.
Mogalakwena spokesperson, Malesela Selokela, said Kekana’s contract had expired and was advertised. He said the positions of chief financial officer (CFO) and planning and developmental services manager had been advertised at the same time.
He said the newly-appointed CFO was Alfred Chisane, while Mokopane Letsoalo was the new planning and developmental services manager.
Previously Letsoalo was the municipal manager of Waterberg District Municipality. “During his tenure as municipal manager, the Waterberg District Municipality received a clean audit two year in succession,” Selokela said.
DA councillor Marcelle Maritz replaced councillor Beyers Smit, who is now working in national parliament in Cape Town.
“The council also agreed that the Mahwelereng Stadium is going to be renamed after Piet Pale who was shot and killed three weeks ago,” Selokela added.
