FOUR-year-old Phenyo Chokoe from Ga-Chokoe in Moletjie is in desperate need of a liver transplant, and her parents are pleading with people to come forward as donors.
Phenyo’s mother, Jennifer Chokoe (22) said her daughter had suffered from hepatitis (an inflammation of the liver) since 2011, and now needed a liver transplant if she was to survive.
“I started to realise that my daughter had a problem when she was two-weeks-old, after her skin and the whites of her eyes became a yellowish colour.
“I went to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital and the doctor told me to bring her back in two weeks time, which I did. All they did then was to tell me to ensure she was in sufficient sunlight. They did not even examine her.
“The doctor also said they would look out for a donor. He later referred me to Dr George Mukhari Hospital. I have had to put my school work on hold and I don’t sleep much. There is no one else to look after Phenyo.
“Anyone willing to be donor should please contact me,” Chokoe pleaded.
Phuti Mokwatedi (21), the father of Phenyo, said the situation was affecting everyone close to Phenyo. “We have tried our level best, but what we need right now is a good Samaritan to donate a liver. I hope she will get help soon,” he said.
Anyone willing to assist can contact Chokoe at 071 581 3546 or 076 999 3027.
