Thembi Nkadimeng (Polokwane mayor) addresses attendees at a breakfast session hosted by Old Mutual, Capricorn area, in Polokwane last Thursday.
IT IS the responsibility of every person to ensure that women are empowered through development.
This was said by Polokwane mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng during an Old Mutual, breakfast session hosted for top business people and government officials at the Polokwane Royal Hotel last Thursday.
Also in attendance were representatives of universities, labour union and the police.
“The rise for women has begun and if you don’t see it you are behind,” she said, adding that she would be at the front of the campaign for women empowerment.
“As the country celebrates Women’s Month, women are urged to grab the opportunities afforded them. Success doesn’t come to those who wait for it,” she said.
She further said there was a need for government to partner with the business sector in order to ensure good practises and also to ensure that government delivered on its promises. Old Mutual general manager for tied, sales and distribution, Themba Ngwenya, said the organisation was grateful for the opportunity that government was providing by opening its doors, and that they would continue to partner them to ensure the transfer of necessary skills, and in so doing, contribute towards the development of communities. “It was through stakeholder engagement that the organisation is able to understand the challenges and provide the necessary products,” Ngwenya said.
