Capricorn FET wins debate trophy

CAPRICORN FET College's Polokwane campus debate team was crowned the 2014 debating champions during a College Academic Day celebration.

CAPRICORN FET College’s Polokwane campus debate team was crowned the 2014 debating champions during a College Academic Day celebration.

The celebration was held at the college’s Seshego campus last Friday.

Organised by the college’s central office, the celebration saw three of the college’s campuses, Polokwane, Seshego and Senwabarwana compete in a tough debate competition.

The teams debated on three motions:

• The house believes that xenophobic attacks are not good for South Africa.

• In some societies, it is increasingly common to try to achieve good health and fitness through physically demanding sport, special diets or preventative medicine, conventional or alternatives. Some people, however, believe that the best way to stay fit and healthy is simply to lead a normal life.

• The house believes universities and FET education should be free.

Mpho Mosotho, the Polokwane debate coach, said the Polokwane campus was proud of their team.

“We look forward to challenge other FET colleges in the province and outside the province. Debating will equip the students with public speaking skills and with knowledge on economic, social and political issues that affect them as students.”
