Muni and police clean up Boom Street

Municipal employees and police officials participated in a special law enforcement joint operation in Boom Street last Wednesday.

POLOKWANE – Municipal employees and police officials participated in a special law enforcement joint operation in Boom Street last Wednesday.

This followed after the municipality and the police received several complaints about various illegal activities taking place in the area.

These activities ranged from illegal electrical and water connections, contravention of the Land Use Act, fire and building regulations, the illegal dumping of refuse, and motor repair activities.

The illegal electrical and water connections were disconnected. About 13 fines with a total value of R14 400 were issued during the operation. The municipality’s community safety unit arrested eight undocumented foreign nationals, who were subsequently handed over to the department of home affairs.

“The municipality will continue enforcing by-laws and regulations in order to ensure a better quality of life in the city, while keeping order on the streets,” municipal spokesperson Malesela Maubane said.
