Makhado muni builds a R8,8 million hall in Elim

THE communities around Elim and Waterval will soon have their community meetings in a proper community hall.

THE communities around Elim and Waterval will soon have their community meetings in a proper community hall.

Meetings under trees will be a thing of the past when the Makhado Municipality’s construction of the new hall in Elim is complete.

Makhado municipal spokesperson, Louis Bobodi, says the new hall, which costs R8,8 million, can accommodate 1 000 people and could be used for all community activities including competitions, meetings, weddings and other gatherings.

“The hall is almost complete and the construction process created 25 jobs for local young people. As soon as the electricity supply for the hall is connected, we will be able to hand it over to the community,” he says.

According to Bobodi, the Makhado Municipality recently completed another community hall in Dzanani. He says the municipality will continue development in the area with the road project at Chabane village.

The new development comes after mayor David Mutavhatsindi announced that R87 million had been made available to Makhado Municipality by the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) to complete infrastructure projects and start new ones.

“Waterval township will be revamped in the next year. Last year, the council approved R6 million to upgrade the streets, but this year an additional of R8,2 million was budgeted to finish phase 2 of the project,” Mutavhatsindi said in his state of the municipality address.
