Day hospital to offer top healthcare in the city

The new Polokwane North Healthcare Centre will be home to a state of the art three-theatre, 21-bed day hospital and will be the first day hospital in Limpopo for the Cure Day Clinics Group (CDC Group).

POLOKWANE – Medical specialists and experts in the hospital design, construction and management industries enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine while they witnessed the sod turning of the new Polokwane North Healthcare Centre on Thursday.

The centre will be home to a state of the art three-theatre, 21-bed day hospital and will be the first day hospital in Limpopo for the Cure Day Clinics Group (CDC Group).

The CDC group has already opened six day hospitals in the Free State, Gauteng and the Western Cape and by 2016, the facility in Polokwane will be the group’s eighth day hospital.

Dr Oscar Shimange, chairperson of the CDC Group said it was of paramount importance for the CDC Group to have representation in Limpopo. “This is a positive step towards the group’s vision to establish a national footprint of day hospitals in South Africa.”

“The CDC Group’s cost effective same-day surgery attempts to address the issue of rampant costs in the healthcare industry. The convenience, efficiency and optimisation of time management for doctors as well as an improved patient experience due to reduced admission and waiting times will certainly make the day clinic a popular option in Polokwane,” Shimange added.

Bert von Wielligh, managing director of the CDC Group, said the new day hospital should be open in early 2016 and will be situated about one kilometre from Mall of the North on the R81 in Bendor extension 103.

The Polokwane North Healthcare Centre will include general practitioner and specialist consulting rooms and oncology, sub acute, physiotherapy, pathology, pharmacy and renal dialysis facilities and professional services.

Dudley Annenberg, managing director of the Annenberg Property Group said as with any major building development, a highly qualified team had been established to realise the project.

“We are very excited and proud to be able to deliver a one-stop medical service facility that offers safe, convenient and world class medical facilities to the community of Polokwane and Limpopo,” he said.
