Lebowakgomo constable arrested for corruption in rape case scheme

A Lebowakgomo FCS constable has been arrested for allegedly soliciting money from a rape complainant in a corruption scheme.

LIMPOPO – A 34-year-old police constable attached to the Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit appeared before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of corruption.

The suspect, Constable Chuene Leeto Lucia Ramadimetja, was arrested by members of the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit after the execution of a warrant of arrest in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation.

Alleged scheme to solicit money

The investigation stems from allegations that the police constable acted as an intermediary in a scheme to solicit money from a complainant whose rape case was pending before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court.

The matter was uncovered following a complaint reported to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, which subsequently conducted an intensive investigation.

Prosecutor already arrested

The investigation previously led to the arrest of a prosecutor, who allegedly solicited R3 000 from the complainant in exchange for facilitating the withdrawal of the rape case.

Following further investigations and a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the police constable was also charged for her alleged role in the commission of the offence.

Bail granted

The accused was granted bail of R10 000, and the matter was postponed to August 28, for her case to be joined with that of the co-accused, the prosecutor.
