THE launch of a R513 million water project near Makhado on Friday that entails the construction of a water pipeline from Valdezia to Moukop reservoir in Makhado, will solve the water crisis in the Makhado municipality catchment area.
The project was officially launched by Vhembe mayor Tshitereke Matibe, who made it clear to the contractor appointed that the municipality would not tolerate shoddy or unfinished work.
The contractor, Rendeals Consulting, was appointed on October 8 and the project will be completed in phases.
Matibe said the water pipeline would be able to supply water to Makhado, the Makhado Air Force Base, and 33 villages within the Sinthumule and Kutama areas.
“The project is being implemented by the Vhembe District Municipality in partnership with the department of water affairs,” he said.
Makhado mayor, David Mutavhatsindi said the project had been long awaited by the affected communities, and he hoped this would solve the problem.
